A Must Own Demonstration Disc! This DXD CD will challenge your system and shake your house!!!
Super High Definition format: Digital eXtreme Definition 24-bit 352.8kHz CD! Playable on all CD players!
Michael Stearns is one of the originators of a genre of music that emerged in the 1970s. This music has been described as space music, contemporary instrumental music, new age music, electronic music, and so on... It's primary instrument is the synthesizer or the human as synthesizer. Michael weaves into his music instruments and sounds from other cultures, newly developed instruments, the human voice, and sounds of nature.
In the fall of 1994 Michael traveled to the "Lost World" of Venezuela and spent a month there exploring and collecting source material for this solo album.
A sonic blockbuster; the track on Volcano Eruption will challenge your system to the extreme and will shake your house! Fasten your seatbelt, please!
If you think of Arthur Conan Doyle's book when you hear this title, you're not so wrong. The book was set in the jungles of South America, where researchers discover a prehistoric world including dinosaurs. Both the book and later film adaptations took the jungle and plateau of Mount Roraima in Canaima National Park in Venezuela as a model. This work was created with the sounds typical of the jungle and the legends of the Indians living there.
Michael Stearns weaves a dense web of sounds of nature, singing, Indian legends and New Age sound. He was inspired by a journey of several weeks into the jungle with an arduous ascent of Mt. Roraima and flight in a DC-3 from 1941, which is the only "modern" connection that allows travel to remote areas. Musically, both the vastness of the Sabena plain and the power of the world's highest waterfall in the national park at 982 meters are processed. In keeping with Arthur Conan Doyle's book, the real footage of a volcanic eruption is also woven into the music.
The whole FIM re-mastering actually takes you into another world and especially listeners who sit perfectly in the stereo triangle will hear how the music wanders around them. In particular, the correct mixing of the volcanic eruption was a problem for FIM. The original idea of leaving the 20Hz tones at real volume was soon discarded, as there are hardly any music listeners who can reproduce something like this and even the wife of Winston MA considered the first playback attempts to be a real earthquake. It was decided to shift the frequency to the range of 40 to 110 hertz in order to give people in normal homes a chance to enjoy this experience.
The album "The Lost World" is one of the absolute delicacies in the FIM program and should be one of THE demo discs par excellence.
DXD Digital eXtreme Definition:
Digital eXtreme Definition (DXD) is an audio encoding scheme that was developed for editing high-resolution recordings because DSD, the audio standard used on Super Audio CD is not ideally suited for editing. DXD is a PCM-like signal with 24-bit resolution sampled at 352.8 kHz - eight times 44.1 kHz, the sampling frequency of Red Book CD. The data rate is 11.2896 Mbit/s - four times that of DSD!
FIM/LIM DXD CDs have taken this a step further to bring you closer to the source. Instead of making two or more sample rate conversions as with SACD, FIM/LIM recorded the source in DXD! The data rate for a DXD mono signal is 8467.2MHz, or more than 3X the data rate of a typical SACD! Experience the closest you can get to the original performance in the comfort of your home!
