Connie Francis topped the charts in the 1950s and '60s with her downbeat ballads sung in her trademark style. You couldn't have a "Best of Connie Francis" collection without "Who's Sorry Now?", "Where the Boys Are" and "Lipstick On Your Collar".
There is probably only one popular singer who could surpass Madonna in the number of albums sold. Connie Francis was the female superstar of pop music of the 50s and 60s. She served all music genres from big band to country and still made a spectacular false start. After she got a record deal with MGM because one of her songs bore the name of the son of one of the bosses, she was simply unsuccessful. It wasn't until 1957 that everything suddenly changed with the cover version of Who is Sorry Now and to date she has released 70 LPs.
The original analogue recordings are surprisingly well preserved and some of the recordings from the 50s are still produced in mono. The later works, such as Lipstick on your Collar, then make use of the new stereophony.
This CD is part of a series of Universal Music K2 HD productions, which were produced at the instigation of the national company in Hong Kong. This national company takes over the distribution of FIM productions in Hong Kong and was itself surprised by the enormous success of the FIM K2 HD discs, as otherwise such expensive products cannot be sold in large quantities. That's why some enormously popular productions have been reworked by Hakamata Takeshi, who is also responsible for the FIM productions as a mastering engineer, by the JVC FLAIR Studio in Tokyo. The K2 HDs are manufactured by Memory Tech in Japan and appear in a beautifully designed hardcover booklet similar to the FIM productions. As with FIM, the CDs are also protected in a fleece sleeve.
Attention: These CDs are actually remastered (K2 HD Mastering) and should not be confused with CDs available in Japan that have only been transcoded (K2 HD Coding).
