Chris Whitley Perfect Day Hybrid SACD
If you have not been deterred by the sight of the album cover and still read this text, we would like to congratulate you. She could make a great discovery! The American singer/songwriter Chris Whitley began his career in the blues. There he remained rooted throughout his life, even when later rock and jazz influences in particular found their way into his music. Together with Billy Martin and Chris Wood (of the jazz trio Medeski, Martin & Wood), Whitley produced the album Perfect Day in 2000, on which he interprets tracks by Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and other artist colleagues.
Whitley's voice captivates, his guitar playing is minimalist, his performance is compelling. Willie Dixon's spoonful seems to fall apart when Whitley breaks down the rhythm with his guitar. Perfect Day is a little gem that reveals completely new facets in titles such as Drifting, Crystal Ship and Spanish Harlem Incident.
About AudioQuest Music
The blues label AudioQuest Music was founded in the late 1980s and continues today under the name Sledgehammer Blues at Valley Entertainment. The mission of responsible producer Joe Harley was to produce the best audiophile recordings at the technical height of time. They used analog technology with tailor-made tube electronics and avoided any noise reduction, compression, equalizer or limiter. Characteristic of the result is the realistic, spontaneous sound of the recordings, which lacks any overproduction. Since the most talented artists were also invited to record, the titles of AudioQuest Music are still among the most interesting blues recordings available on the audiophile market. Bernie Grundman has digitized and mastered the analog tapes for the SACDs.
