Michael Jackson's reign as King of Pop starts right here! "Off The Wall" combines funk, disco, soul and R&B in a visionary way! At the beginning of the recording sessions, Michael Jackson was only clear about one thing: He didn't want to sound like The Jacksons. The late producer legend Quincy Jones did him this favor – the beginning of a collaboration that would shape almost two highly creative decades in Jackson's artistic discography.
Jackson was not the sole author of the furious tracklist: Stevie Wonder ("I Can't Help It"), Rod Temperton ("Rock With You") and Paul McCartney ("Girlfriend"), among others, participated in the songwriting. While "Girlfriend" was only able to place in the top 50 of the single charts in Europe on the island, the other two singles as well as "She's Out Of My Life", written by Tom Bahler, occupied high chart positions, especially in the UK and the USA. "Rock With You" and the song "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough", written by Jackson himself, were even able to establish themselves at the top of the US singles charts. The album, on the other hand, beat all records: To date, it has been certified platinum nine times (!) in the USA and sold a total of over 20 million units - the world's most successful album by a black artist to date.
