Bob James & Kirk Whalum Joined at the Hip Hybrid Stereo SACD
In 1996, pianist Bob James and saxophonist Kirk Whalum – two of the biggest names in contemporary jazz – combined their talents on this acclaimed Warner Bros. album. Supported by a strong band consisting of guitarist Jeff Golub, bassist Chris Walker and drummer Billy Kilson, the duo served up the finest original compositions – including Whalum's atmospheric tone poem "Soweto" – and jazzy reinterpretations of two great hits from the 70s: Maria Muldaur's "Midnight At The Oasis" and Donny Hathaways' "The Ghetto". "Joined At The Hip" was nominated for a Grammy and went straight to number 10 on the Billboard jazz charts.
For the sonically impressive DSD remastering, the original high-resolution audio mixes were used. The 16-page booklet contains new liner notes with memories from James, Whalum and Ken Freeman, the original sound engineer of the session.
EvoSound has remastered the album using hi-resolution digital transfers from the original analogue master tapes and is now available as a hybrid Stereo SACD. The hybrid SACD plays on both SACD and regular CD Players.
