Patricia Barber's "Modern Cool" brought her mainstream success, driven by her classic version of "Light My Fire" by the Doors. On her tour for this album, Barber played excerpts from it during a four-night performance at the Jazz Standard in New York, which caught the attention of Blue Note Records producer Bruce Lundvall. This was followed by a series of popular Barber recordings for Premonition and Blue Note, worldwide tours and unabashed critical acclaim.
Jim Anderson's stunningly detailed, naturalistic recording quickly made "Modern Cool" an audiophile classic. The recording received a Grammy for Best Surround Sound Album in 2013.
