I've tried a few styles of music - from folk and country songs to what one reviewer once called "pop in a different guise". With this album, however, I clearly feel in singer-songwriter mode. The songs are about people, places, experiences -friends, Captain Cook, Mother Nature (don't worry, there's only one love song - "Once Not Twice" - and even that has a little sting at the end). I mainly play acoustic guitar, but also bass, electric guitar and even banjo from time to time. Luckily for you, I'm sticking with a particularly great guitar from Californian luthier Jeff Traugott on this album, with the exception of the German-built Lakewood, which I play on "Almost". But what you're hearing isn't just the singer-songwriter plucking his guitar. It's my songs, seen through the eyes of a very special, Grammy-nominated producer, Günter Pauler. Thanks to him, I was able to record with some fantastic musicians, such as fingerpicking maestro Jens Kommnick, who plays the only guitar on "Orphan Earth" (my personal favorite at the moment); Lea Morris, whose vocal arrangements are full of gentle surprises, beautifully sung; Manfred Leuchter - brilliant on - what else? - "Accordion Arts"; Beo Brockhausen, who has been giving color to my songs since my very first Stockfisch album "Light Green Ball" - sometimes on instruments that I wouldn't recognize if I were to listen to them. in a music store; and Justin Ciuche (viola), Ian Melrose (guitar) and Lars Hansen (bass), who all played their parts perfectly. In the end, however, it is thanks to Günter that what you hear on this album ... my true self finally "feeling free to sail with the angels of the sea". - Paul Stephenson, April 2024
