Numbered, Limited Edition Hybrid SACD!
Carl Orff's Carmina Burana was written in 1935/36 and is based on the eponymous text collection of Middle Latin and Middle High German songs and dramas from the 11th and 12th centuries. Orff selected 24 of them and wrote a libretto from them. The topics range from changing happiness and prosperity to the dangers of drinking, gluttony and lust to the awakening of spring.
The recording with the chorus and orchestra of the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, conducted by Eugen Jochum in 1967 with soprano Gundula Janowitz, tenor Gerhard Stolze and baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, took place in the presence of Carl Orff. One of the best recordings of the choral work.
