John Coltrane's performances in 1961 at the "Village Vanguard", the New York club where numerous jazz greats of the time performed and recorded, is considered a turning point in the development of jazz. The gripping, 16-minute "Chasin' the Train" is the highlight of this live album, which contains three selected recordings. The live recordings were supervised by sound engineer legend Rudy Van Gelder.
John Coltrane will be accompanied by an all-star ensemble consisting of Eric Dolphy (alto saxophone/bass clarinet), Garvin Bushell (oboe/contrabassoon), Ahmed Abdul-Malik (oud), McCoy Tyner (piano), Jimmy Garrison (bass), Reggie Workman (bass), Elvin Jones (drums) and Roy Haynes (drums).
SHM-SACD (Super High Material SACD) is the ultimate Super Audio CD that utilizes the materials and technologies that were developed for the SHM-CD to further enhance the audio-resolution. These discs are made with polycarbonate developed for the screen of the liquid crystal display. As it has a higher transparency, players can read the signal more faithfully. Also, it excels in fluidity, which enables you to cast a more accurate pit. What works wonders for a low resolution format such as CD should offer even greater sonic improvements in a real high resolution format such as SACD.
