In his multifaceted career, the American conductor, violinist and composer Lorin Maazel has also had some close contact with the German classical music landscape: whether as chief conductor of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO), the Deutsche Oper Berlin or, in his later years, the Munich Philharmonic; to name just a few stations.
During his time as conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra, these recordings of the "Pines of Rome" and the "Roman Festivals" by Ottorino Respighi were recorded, which were recorded in 1976 and 1979 at the "Masonic Auditorium" in Cleveland.
Lorin Maazel conducts the Cleveland Orchestra in readings of Respighi's orchestral tone poems "Pini di Roma" and "Feste Romane," as well as a Suite from Rimsky-Korsakov's opera The Golden Cockerel. The album was recording May 10-14, 1976 and May 10, 1979 at the Masonic Auditorium in Cleveland.
