Duke Ellington & Coleman Hawkins Duke Ellington Meets Coleman Hawkins SHM-SACD

"One of the great Ellington albums, one of the great Hawkins albums, and one of the great albums of the 1960s," wrote the New York Times in 1995 about this joint recording by two jazz greats. Ellington and Hawkins had the utmost respect for each other's work and had the idea of recording a joint album for many years.
In fact, it was performed in Rudy van Gelder's studio on 18 August 1962. Ellington did not bring his orchestra of the time, but some of his soloists.
This title is an SHM-SACD. This format is the further development of the single-layer SACD and uses a particularly light-transparent plastic (S uper High Material). This results in significantly better readability of the pit-land structures on the surface than is possible with hybrid SACDs. Universal's SHM-SACDs are generally digitized from the master tapes of the albums to DSD without any changes. SHM-SACDs can be played on any SACD player.
