Leonard Bernstein & Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Beethoven Symphony No.9 Hybrid Stereo SACD
Beethoven's 9th Symphony is a key work of symphonic music and has influenced numerous composers. For Anton Bruckner, it was the trigger for his symphonic work, while Gustav Mahler continued to pursue the path of involving choirs and singers opened up by Beethoven. The 9th Symphony also had an impact beyond music, on artists from other disciplines, on philosophy, on the discourse on aesthetics. This recording of Leonard Bernstein with the Vienna Philharmonic was made in 1979 and is part of a series of recordings of all of Beethoven's symphonies. It is sung by Gwyneth Jones (soprano), Hanna Schwarz (alto), René Kollo (tenor) and Kurt Moll (bass), the recording was made at the Vienna State Opera.
