Newly Remastered on Hybrid SACD! Mastered by Bernie Grundman!
As early as 1957, Charles Mingus recorded this album with his colleagues Curtis Porter (alto saxophone), Jimmy Knepper, (trombone), Clarence Shaw (trumpet), Bill Triglia (piano) and Danny Richmond (drums), Frankie Dunlop (percussion), Ysabel Morel (castanets) and Lonnie Elder (vocals), but it was not until 1962 that »Tijuana Moods« was released. He was often said to demand everything from his comrades-in-arms and drive them to contribute their full potential. For »Tijuana Moods« this is certainly true.
Bassist and composer Mingus considered the recording to be his best release. Bebop mixes with the tequila-soaked haze of nightclubs, a flamenco striptease, serenading mariachis and the heat of the Mexican sun. The passionate playing of the dedicated ensemble and the top-class compositions make this recording a real gem. The remastering for Original Recordings Group was done by Bernie Grundman.
