Born in Moscow in 1914, Kirill Kondrashin was one of the first prominent Russian conductors to perform worldwide and be engaged as a guest conductor. This recording is the document of his outstanding work with the orchestra of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. Wherever he worked, Kondrashin transformed the musicians under his direction into a versatile powerhouse with rich string and lush brass sounds.
This recording of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" is rightly considered one of the most exciting recordings of the work of all time. Highly recommended!
