Modest Mussorgsky's piano cycle "Pictures at an Exhibition", composed in 1874, is dedicated to the artistic work of his late friend, the painter and architect Viktor Hartmann. Maurice Ravel's orchestral version, first performed in 1922, became world-famous, immediately followed by Leopold Stokowski's version, which was played here with London's New Philharmonia Orchestra. The recordings took place in 1965 at Kingsway Hall in London.
