A historic meeting of two exceptional artists took place on August 28, 1962 in Washington D.C.: Dave Brubeck and his band as well as Tony Bennett and his trio were invited to perform as part of the concert series "White House Seminar American Jazz Concerts". Three years after their surprise hit Take Five, which is probably one of the most famous and successful jazz pieces of all time, the Dave Brubeck Quartet was in great demand and Brubeck was one of the leading personalities of modern jazz.
In the early 1960s, Bennett was experiencing a high point in his career, which continues to this day. His hit I Left My Heart In San Francisco was released a few weeks before his performance in the American capital. Now that both had completed their sets, the real sensation of this late summer day followed: Brubeck and Bennett spontaneously decided to delight their audience with an improvised joint performance. Astonishingly, the recordings of this musical treat disappeared into the archives and were even considered lost for a long time before they were rediscovered by a happy coincidence in 2012.
After the release of an audiophile vinyl edition, you can now experience the complete White House sessions in SACD quality for the first time thanks to Impex Records. The SACD was mixed, mastered and rendered entirely in DSD and HDCD by Mark Wilder at Battery Studios for a true-to-the-original sound, pressed by Sony DADC Austria and comes with a tasteful twelve-page photo booklet made of high-quality linen paper.
