Among all the famous pieces of music by Henry Mancini, "The Pink Panther Theme" is likely to take the top spot in terms of popularity and recognition value. The exciting, jazzy title track from Blake Edwards' comedy about the clumsy inspector Clousseau and the English master thief Sir Charles Lytton is not only an unforgettable classic of film music history. It was also used as the opening tune for the animated series that emerged from the film's opening credits, which aired on television for years, and introduced generations of children to Mancini's music.
However, it would be a serious mistake to reduce the soundtrack to the "Pink Panther Theme", as there are eleven other wonderful songs from Mancini's pen, such as the lively "It Had Better Be Tonight", "Something for Sellers" or the fine "Royal Blue". Henry Mancini was rightly awarded three Grammys and nominated for an Oscar for "The Pink Panther". More than 50 years after its release, the film music for the Pink Panther has lost none of its class and is now available in an audiophile edition on SACD thanks to Analogue Productions. The remastering of the original tapes was done by Ryan Smith of Sterling Sound.
