In between his performances with the James Gang and the Eagles, Joe Walsh recorded his second solo studio album, "The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get", which would become his most successful solo work. The LP from 1973 continued the mixture of heavy and light rock that had already been heard on the previous album Barnstorm.
The album features some of Joe Walsh's best-known songs, including the hits "Rocky Mountain Way," "Meadows," as well as "Bookends," "Wolf," and "Dreams." Walsh's ability to jump wildly from one end of the rock scale to the other is unparalleled, making for an album that appeals to many tastes.
Analogue Productions has done reissue justice to the album that AllMusic decries "features some of the most remembered Joe Walsh tracks, but it's not just these that make the album a success. Each of the nine tracks is a song to be proud of. This is a superb album by anyone's standards."
