Judee Sill's classic 1973 sophomore album, Heart Food, is cut as a double-45RPM LP set and pressed on dead-quiet 180-gram vinyl.
The amazing Judee Sill was the first artist to be signed to David Geffen's Asylum Records, and Judee Sill was the first album to be released on the label. Sill's music is spiritual, imbued with mysticism and divine imagery. She is based on great songwriting and her pure but powerful singing voice.
Sill's life was tragic both personally and professionally. Her father and brother died young, and her tempestuous relationship with her alcoholic mother caused her to leave home at the age of 15. She committed robberies and began a battle with drug addiction, which she ended up losing. When the success of the two albums failed to materialize, her career never recovered. Sill died in 1979 at the age of only 35.
Sill's albums were not marketable and commercial success failed to materialize. But her work has influenced numerous artists and Warren Zevon, Shawn Colvin and Steven Wilson, among others, have shown themselves to be fans of her music.
The remastering for Intervention Records was done by Kevin Gray. Double LP at 45 rpm.
