High Quality Pure Analogue 180g Virgin Vinyl LP! Audiophile Remastering!
Let's look back nostalgically to the day when influential DJs presented their precious wares on the radio, which were lapped up by listeners and music pirates alike. That progressive, perhaps psycho, rockers such as the Blue Oyster Cult led a somewhat niche existence makes one all the more eager to listen to the truly awesome discs recorded by this group in their early days. An important start was made with the re-release of BOC's "Secret Treaties", which is now followed by "Tyranny And Mutation" - another great disc. Although the band offers a mix of slightly subdued, milder pieces, the opening number "?The Red & The Black" makes it fully clear that we are in for a dizzy roller-coaster ride here. Subsequently the Black side with its straightforward guitar riffs is mixed together with a complex melody and results in an amazingly colorful sound ("O.D.'d On Life Itself"), it is refreshingly naive, full of feisty complicated rock ("Baby Ice Dog"), and soars to celestial heights in "Wings Wetted Down" with its polyphonic male voices.
Let us remember with transfigured smiles the record popes from the radio, how they carried their sanctuaries in front of them like a monstrance, to which the listeners and pirates paid homage in anticipation. The fact that psycho-suspicious progressive rockers like Blue Öyster Cult lived a niche existence in these quota-heavy sessions motivates all the more to put the really strong discs from the early days of the US boys on the ear canals.
After "Secret Treaties" (Columbia KC 32858), a weighty piece of BÖC, is now another big number in the race with "Tyranny & Mutation". Even if the band mixes their pieces from milder timbres, the opener "The Red & The Black" makes it clear that they have the dizzying high-speed ride on it. Then you mix the black of simple guitar riffs with the opaque white of complex melody to amazingly colorful sound ("O.D.' On Life Itself"), shows refreshingly naïve, richly snappy filigree rock ("Baby Ice Dog") and swings into the heights of polyphonic male vocals with "Wings Wetted Down".
After the departure of 'Lemmy' Kilmister, there can only be this one band with the heavy metal umlaut that we are looking forward to. But we can't wait for the day when robust radio uncles pop this extra slice of worldly-fleshy rock'n'rolls on our plates.
