TAS Super LP List! Special Merit: Informal
45rpm 180g Vinyl Double LP!
Mastered by Kevin Gray from the Original Master Tape!
Pressed at QRP!
In 1972, when pioneering jazz labels such as Blue Note and Prestige had already been sold and their catalog was only managed, the car dealer Carl E. Jefferson founded his own record company. A few years earlier, he had already launched the Concord Jazz Festival, and now he wanted to capture his favorite musicians on vinyl. Concord Records has released some outstanding musical and sonic treasures – and the Ray Brown Trio's "Soular Energy" released in 1985 is one of them. The recording with Ray Brown, Gene Harris and Gerryck King has long been considered not only straightforward jazz, but also an audiophile pearl.
For "Soular Energy", the trio, supplemented by Red Holloway and Emily Remler, went to the studio of Coast Recorders in San Francisco. None other than the "Father of Modern Recording", Bill Putnam, was responsible for its creation. Outstanding musicians, a first-class studio, standards with energy and verve – it's no wonder that "Soular Energy" continues to inspire future generations of jazz lovers today. Kevin Gray of Cohearent Audio did an exceptional mastering for this 45 double LP.
Ray Brown, Gene Harris and Gerryck King are spectacular in this 1984 recording. Red Holloway (tenor sax) and a rare appearance by the great Emily Remler (guitar) round out the original musicians.
This is a completely new mastering and pressing of this famous release. Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio did exceptional mastering work for this double LP, cut at 45 RPM from the original master tape, and pressed by Quality Record Pressings. Gary Salstrom, then QRP's general manager and master plating technician, plated the lacquers, and lastly they redesigned the artwork for this deluxe Stoughton Printing Old Style Tip-On gatefold jacket presentation.
