180g Vinyl LP!
Mastered by Matthew Lutthans from the Original Analog Tape!
Pressed at QRP!
Count Basie occasionally admonished young sidemen who were in the process of shedding their horns not to play in his bebop band, as it was rooted in the rhythmic and harmonic soil of the swing era. So how was Basie able to record an album with Dizzy Gillespie, one of the forefathers of bebop?
With pleasure! Before Gillespie developed bebop, he was a musician of the swing era. He and Basie drew from a common fund of jazz knowledge and wisdom. As masters of the blues, it was not difficult for them to adjust to each other. This album from 1977 is built on the blues. The unlimited possibilities inherent in this form of music challenged the ingenuity, flexibility and enthusiasm of all musicians. Bass and drums are by Ray Brown and Mickey Roker, two musicians who are undoubtedly qualified to play with two of the most important figures in jazz.
This 180-gram re-release from Analogue Productions was mastered by Kevin Gray and pressed at Quality Record Pressings to ensure optimal sound quality - an exceptional audiophile album.
Count Basie occasionally cautioned young sidemen who were feeling their oats not to play bebop in his band, which was rooted in the rhythmic and harmonic soil of the swing era. How, then, could Basie be expected to make an album with Dizzy Gillespie, one of the progenitors of bop?
Happily. Before he began evolving bebop, Gillespie was a swing-era musician. He and Basie operated from a common store of jazz knowledge and wisdom. Masters of time and the blues, they had no difficulty accommodating one another, none at all. This 1977 album is built on the blues. Bass and drums are by Ray Brown and Mickey Roker, musicians unquestionably qualified to make music with two of the seminal figures in jazz.
