Venus Masterpiece Collection Limited Edition 180g Vinyl Double LP!
Intelligent, articulate and controversial tenor sax player, composer, and singer Archie Shepp was a strong advocate of "free jazz" in the 1960s and 1970s. He surprised Japanese jazz fans in the 1990s when he released a series of ballad albums from Venus Records, beginning with Blue Ballads in 1995. In a nutshell, this recording is a treasure. Tenor sax legend Archie Shepp is joined by one of his favorite collaborators, pianist Horace Parlan, in a terrific set of classic jazz ballads.
"Blue Ballads" opened a three-part series of ballad albums by tenor saxophonist, composer and singer Archie Shepp in 1995. The intellectual musician, who is actually turned to free jazz and made a career with it in the 1960s and 70s, shows his tender side and interprets a series of classic jazz ballads. He will be accompanied by pianist Horace Parlan.
Venus LPs are pressed only once. After the first edition has been sold, the titles will be removed from the catalogue. Collectors should therefore consider buying in good time.
