In 1961, the Berlin Jazz Festival welcomed the stunning troupe around Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto with Gary Burton, Chuck Israel and Roy Hayne - probably unaware that it would be one of the last joint performances with Burton on vibraphone.
Beautifully put together, this evening's program offered an alternation between extravagant standards with exuberant solos, exhilarating ballads in which Getz demonstrated his lyrical vocals and compositions by Gary Burton, in which the vibraphonist showed his subtle harmonic world. A colorful sequence of bossa nova standards - "Você E Eu", "Corcovado" and "The Girl from Ipanema" - mixed with pieces that were more jazzy in form and spirit, such as "Jive Hoot", "The Shadow of your Smile" and "It Might as Well Be Spring", which thrilled the audience.
The recording of this performance remained untouched for almost sixty years, until the team at The Lost Recordings tracked down the original tapes in the archives of Berliner Rundfunk. This album is the very first edition of a memorable live concert that has been fully restored with Phoenix Mastering®.
The first edition is hand-numbered and limited to 3000 copies.
