Dizzy Gillespie not only knows how to impress on the trumpet, but also his full, warm voice gets under your skin. This recording from the Singer Concert Hall at the Dutch "Laren Jazz Festival" on August 25, 1973 wonderfully shows the musical range of the American, who, along with Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk, was one of the pioneers of bebop in the 40s. He dedicated the ballad "Brother K", interrupted by stormy outbursts, to his friend Martin Luther King, while in "The Blues" he leaves the trumpet to let his voice shine. Sometimes experimental, sometimes melancholic, politically versatile and in any case always surprising: everything is possible with Gillespie. This "Lost Recordings" release as a 180-gram double LP honors a special jazz musician.
