Various Artists Volume Seven: The Call

"The Call" carries the spirit of hard bop of the 50s and 60s into our time. As was customary at the time, the session was recorded in one go in one place and recorded absolutely analog and without cuts and overdubs by sound engineer and "Jazz on Vinyl" label owner Dominik Klatte. The result is a wonderfully swinging and dynamic recording that is a musical and sonic pearl for audiophile jazz lovers.
Seven compositions by pianist C.L. Mayer and saxophonist Michael Ausserbauer can be found on the 7th release of the jazz series, which is appreciated by collectors. Supported by Christoph Vilsmeier on double bass and Ralph Ausserbauer on drums, the masters of their craft show a broad mood picture of hard bop, such as the complex title track "The Call", the bluesy "Let's all go Home", the tender ballad "Behind my Wall" or the fresh and groovy "This is my Love".
C.L. Mayer is what is commonly called an exceptional pianist. Critic Marcus Woelfle attests to him "the fantasy of Jaki Byard, which cheerfully mediates between genres, the singing touch of Roland Hanna, the romantic soul of Robert Schumann and a huge portion of peculiarity". It will be difficult to find a more virtuoso and vital pianist in this country.
In his more than 40-year career as a saxophonist, Michael Ausserbauer has worked with many greats of the genre, including blues musicians such as champion Jack Dupree and Louisiana Red. The American musician and critic Tim Price compared his rich sound on the instrument to Houston Person and located his origin in Detroit rather than in his birthplace Munich.
The LP with 33 RPM is pressed on 180-gram vinyl, limited to 1,000 copies and hand-numbered.
