With Vol.5, Jazz On Vinyl presents two multi-award-winning Munich power women: The saxophonist Carolyn Breuer, who caused an international sensation with many of her own projects such as "Four Seasons Of Life" or "Shoot The Piano Player" and the pianist/singer Andrea Hermenau, known for bands such as "Etna" or "Die Drei Damen" and in 2021 is the winner of the Kulturförderpreis Musik der Stadt München. On their joint new record they can be heard both in a duo and in a quartet, accompanied by an excellent rhythm section consisting of Henning Sieverts (double bass) and Christian Lettner (drums).
The recordings were made in the music school Rottach-Egern (Fred & Irmgard Rauch Saal) and in the large hall of the Bürgerhaus Unterföhring. The dry "Studio Klang" in Rottach-Egern gives the two duo pieces White Marble and Mimo is back a very direct touch. White Marble in particular makes carolyn Breuer's very precise and virtuoso playing style come to the fore in this setting. Mimo is back inspires with the fine voice and a fantastic scatting by Andrea Hermenau.
All pieces are original compositions of the musicians and were played live and without editing on the A 807.
In addition to the use of the finest recording technology, the spatial environment in which each individual recording takes place is an important part of the concept. These can be just as many different settings as titles on an album. This attention to detail is evident both in the fact that every subtlety of the recording has an almost palpable presence, as well as the acoustic environment becomes part of the song and - albeit subordinate - part of the overall package.
[An album] that inspires and convinces artistically in terms of sound technology. The press quality also offers no cause for complaint.
Conclusion: The series "Jazz on Vinyl" definitely has collector's potential. - LP, Issue 6/2021
The shot impresses with natural grace, the aura of the two locations and undisguised directness; Top pressing! - Matthias Böde, STEREO, Issue 10/2021
