Francisco Camino gives the highest rating to this recording and says: Brain was an unparalleled virtuoso, and he played the horn with an expressiveness and a sonic fullness that seems more typical of a cello, bypassing (overcoming?) the expressive difficulties of the instrument. Karajan, perhaps fascinated by the soloist, forgets to behave like a divo and dresses the soloist with humility and a sense of dialogue that he would rarely repeat. An unforgettable experience for the listener.
The Penguin Guide also praises the soloist and the sound of this recording.
The Gramophone Classical Music Guide also gives the diamond to this recording and says: Dennis Brain was the most delicate Mozartian of his generation.
