In May 2022, the team of The Lost Recordings found golden recordings of historical value in the archive of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB): Gaetano Donizetti's opera "Lucia Di Lammermoor" in a magnificent cast consisting of Maria Callas, Guiseppe di Stefano and Rolando Panerai, conducted by Herbert von Karajan. Recorded September 29, 1955 at the Städtische Oper Berlin, Callas shines as the technically brilliant and imaginative Lucia, and you get a vivid feeling of what it must be like to experience her live in the concert hall. She will be accompanied by the RIAS Symphony Orchestra and the Coro del Teatro alla Scala, Milan.
Lavishly restored over several months, the recordings have a sound quality that surpasses previous releases and is the most authentic rendition of this historic performance. In 2023, Maria Callas would have turned 100 years old; thus, this special publication is a worthy monument to her in the anniversary year.
Supported by the Callas Foundation, the set of 3 LPs (mono) at 33 1/3 rpm is accompanied by a booklet with atmospheric pictures and texts on 40 pages. The first edition is limited to 5000 copies.
