RCA Living Stereo classical LPs - the gold standard for top quality orchestral performance and sound!
This recording is one of the most sought-after from the Living Stereo series – and rightly so. Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kije presents conductor Fritz Reiner and his Chicago Symphony Orchestra with powerful melodies, vivid colors, daring harmonies and unyielding rhythms. Even though Reiner and his musicians had previously made a name for themselves primarily as Strauss interpreters, with this recording they surpass themselves.
Prokofief was recorded on 2 March 1957 and Stravinsky on 3 November 1956 at Chicago Symphony Hall.
One of the most sought-after Living Stereos and deservedly so, especially for the Song of the Nightingale which is one of Mohr and Layton's finest efforts. The sound is truly wonderful on the Stravinsky too. The original 3-track session tapes were used in mastering this LP.
