2022 Live Performance on Double LP!
Recorded at the Easter Festival in Aix-en-Provence!
The French violinist Renaud Capuçon enjoys an international reputation as a soloist and chamber musician, is the artistic director of several festivals and is also known for his commitment to the promotion and support of younger artists and for the awarding of composition commissions. Now he has signed a contract with Deutsche Grammophon and the first album with the yellow label is not long in coming: a duo album with three of the most beautiful sonatas for violin and piano – accompanied by pianist Martha Argerich. The two are now a seasoned duo and have been playing on the stages of international festivals and concert halls for 20 years.
The concert to be heard here was recorded live at the Easter Festival in Aix-en-Provence in April 2022. It was dedicated to the American pianist Nicholas Angelich, a friend and colleague who had died just a few days earlier. The programme includes three major works for violin and piano: Schumann's Sonata No.1 Op.105, Beethoven's Sonata No.9 Op.47 ("Kreutzer") and Franck's Sonata for Violin and Piano in A major.
"It's a real live recording," says Capuçon, "you rarely get something like that in the studio. Of course, it's an honor for me to play these pieces with Martha, but at the same time it also feels quite natural. She lures things out of me like no one else."
