Elvis Presley Elvis' Christmas Album

While most of the songs selected for this fourth album by Elvis Presley on RCA Records were traditional Christmas fare, such as "White Christmas" and "Silent Night," two new songs by regular suppliers of material for Presley were commissioned. One selected by Elvis to open the album, a blues-based rock and roll number "Santa Claus Is Back In Town," was written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
Also featured on this Christmas album are three gospel numbers along with the pop/spiritual hit "I Believe".
At first glance, it seems as impossible to musically reconcile wild rock'n'roll image and Christian-bourgeois contemplation at Christmas as squaring the circle. But Elvis, who in the 50s hurried through the steep curve of success as faithfully as Santa Claus the sky tent on sled runners, made the feat possible with his "Christmas Album" by singing a mixture of popular Christmas songs and seasonal standards for the record. The King delivers a rocking version of "Santa Claus Is Back In Town" just as convincingly as the natural idyllic year-end song "Peace In The Valley". Of course, the most recorded Christmas hit "White Christmas", which sold 35 million copies in the Bing Crosby version alone, should not be missing here. And perhaps the emotionally interpreted "Silent Night" also contributed a little to the immortality of the former truck driver from Tennessee. In earthly currency, the original changes hands for around 500 US dollars if the enclosed gift sticker is actually still present. And because it's Christmas, there is the coveted sticker on re-release.
