Keb Mo made his solo debut as a blues musician in 1980 under his full name Kevin Moore – and flopped all along the line. For 14 years it remained quiet around the guitarist, singer and songwriter from Los Angeles, who had managed to enter the blues scene of Southern California through an engagement with Papa John Creach.
Only when a manager at Epic Records hears a tape from him, the then 42-year-old gets another chance. This was followed by five Grammys, numerous new albums and worldwide tours, a film project with Martin Scorsese and a concert for host Barack Obama at the White House.
Keb Mo is an idiosyncratic, ambitious collection of dark country-blues songs. The dashing guitar playing, his passionate vocals and his talent as a songwriter make it an album that you would not want to miss in his collection.
