The current LP from the concert recording of the Analogtage 2021 with the Jens Filser Organic Blues Project feat. Brenda Boykin was recorded live in the nerve-wracking direct-to-2-track process at the legendary Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg. This is nerve-wracking because the music is mixed completely live and lands with all details and facets as it is played on the analog stereo tape - without any possibility of subsequent editing. This is a challenge for musicians and the recording team alike.
The Bauerstudios are the oldest private studio in Germany. Stereo recordings have been made there since 1949, a time when the entire broadcasting landscape of Germany still broadcast in mono. In the last seven decades, a myriad of world stars have practically come together in the studio in Ludwigsburg. The place has an almost magical effect on musicians.
The American singer Brenda Boykin, who lives in Germany, is bursting with energy and joie de vivre. Even if she has to perform live performances sitting down due to physical impairments, she has her companions under control with small gestures, glances and hand movements, practically always a smile on her lips and a disarming, winning humor that flashes through in her announcements. The band plays tight, groovy, driving, floating - whatever the respective title and the singer specify. Boykin sometimes improvises in duet with the virtuoso guitarist Jens Filser or with the organist Dirk Schaadt, who always keeps track of things despite all his complexity and passion. He was especially happy at this concert that the band was expanded by the double bass player Till Brandt. This gave Schaadt much more freedom to bring his original Hammond organ and the rotating Leslie loudspeaker to jubilation, sobbing and whispering with both hands and all their passion. Normally, in the organist's organ trio, the left hand is absorbed by the accompanying bass, quasi bound. Schaadt was at the Bauer Studios that evening, completely unleashed, but always keeping an eye on Brenda Boykin's song structures and conducting.
Drummer Micky Neher and bassist Till Brandt were the backbone and musical driving force at this concert. The concert as an overall experience electrified and inspired all spectators equally.
This experience is now finally repeatable with this LP with 33 rpm!
